Games go real and sometime it may be difficult to make distinction between virtual and reality. This is the idea behind the cooperation of OriginGPS from Israel and TobyRich from Germany. OriginGPS has announced that its Nano Hornet module was integrated into the first smartphone controlled gaming drone line, developes by TobyRich, to extend its range and enhance its directional capabilities.

With Nano Hornet, the world’s smallest GPS module with an integrated antenna, TobyRich was able to design a smaller form factor for its innovative drones. TobyRich, established in 2011 and with deep experience in designing smartphone-controlled drones, launched a Kickstarter campaign that will run until August 28 to offer a new, more interactive experience for video gamers and drone enthusiasts across the globe.

The agile drones blend realistic flight maneuvers with innovative interactive game play and are designed to resemble an airplane rather than a quadcopter to extend flight time and carry more payload. The drones can be controlled within a range of 90 meters via the tobyrich.red mobile app, which is available on iOS and Android.

Thanks to OriginGPS, a TobyRich drone knows exactly where it is in relation to a user’s smart device, allowing it to respond immediately and precisely to gesture controls or on-screen joysticks. It also ensure that a drone will automatically return to its point of origin or a pre-programmed destination, to reduce user frustration, minimizes human error and more safety.

ORIGINGPS-MODULEThe Nano Hornet is the world’s smallest fully integrated GPS antenna module, Measuring only 10x10x3.8mm. It integrates a patch antenna element, LNA, SAW filter, TCXO, RTC crystal, RF shield and Power Management Unit with SiRFStarIV™ GPS processor. The module achieves a rapid time to first fix (TTFF) of less than one second, with approximately one meter accuracy and -163dBm tracking sensitivity. It utilizes OriginGPS’ proprietary Noise Free Zone technology to increase sensitivity and minimize interference.

“TobyRich recognized the opportunity to bring drones into a new realm of gaming by adding improved location functionality and created a product with a slim and light form factor,” said Gal Jacobi, CEO of OriginGPS. “We believe that TobyRich is poised to offer consumers breathtaking new experiences, which will spread the joy of flight to new audiences.”

In 2006 OriginGPS introduced the world’s first GPS receiver module with integrated antenna, which enabled automatic pick-and-place assembly and reflow soldering on a host PCB as if it were a SMT component. Its new-generation antenna modules, the Hornet family, takes the patented technology a giant step forward, reducing its size by 65%, while offering 4x greater sensitivity, and the ability to use multi- constellations.
