American audio systems manufacturer Bose extends its cooperation agreement with global sketch-to-scale Solutions Company Flex (formerly Flextronics). A new agreement between the two companies transfers the ownership and operation of two of Bose’s development and manufacturing centers in San-Luis, Mexico and Penang, Malaysia to Flex.

The Mexico plant opened its gates in 1190 and the Malaysia plant opened in 2013. The two fabs employ more than 3,500 together, producing headphones, wireless speaker’s and home theaters. Flex will retain the vast majority of workers in both plants. Flex will assume current and planned Bose production  in both facilities.  The agreement also grants Bose greater access to Flex’s supply chain solutions, accelerating speed-to-market around the world.

. “We’ve always used independent manufacturers to support our global business, and have used Flex in that capacity for over a year” explained Bryan Fontaine, executive vice president, Bose Global Operations. “Now, we’ve chosen them to assume the work in two of our plants because their deep expertise and infrastructure will help us keep pace with our current and future product plans, and meet our projected growth in current and emerging markets.  They’re also innovators and can meet our quality standards”. Bose is a leading player in the audio market. The company was founded in 1964, and it currently has over $3.5 billion in annual sales.

Flex is one of the world’s largest electronics production contractors. The company employs more than 200,000 workers worldwide, in 2016 its annual sales totaled $24.4 billion.
