parasonicEarly stage investment entity NGT3, the proprietor of the Arab-Jewish incubator in the Arab-Israeli city Nazareth, announced that one of its participants, Para-Sonic, raised 1.6 million dollar in an initial funding round from a private America investor. The company has raised 3 million until today, mainly from NGT3 and Israel’s chief scientist.

Para-Sonic developed a home-use device that kills lice and their eggs in a single combing treatment that takes about 3 minutes. Short pulsed ultrasound waves generated by the teeth of the wide-toothed comb destroy the parasites. The comb simultaneously sprays a natural solution onto the hair, to augment the efficacy of the ultrasound and significantly increase the lice and eggs’ mortality. The ultrasonic pulse damages the internal soft tissues of the lice, and they die when the blood diffuses to other parts of their body. Regarding lice eggs, the ultrasound, in combination with the solution, damages the eggs so that their liquid contents leak out.

The company’s technology could be used to treat other parasites such as ticks, which are far more dangerous than lice.
